Quadrangle is proud to announce that Anna Madeira and Richard Witt have been named as Executive Principals, assuming the responsibilities led by Susan Ruptash, who has served as the firm’s Managing Principal for the past nine years. Susan has announced her intention to retire as of 31 January 2018, but will continue to serve as a special advisor to Quadrangle, focusing on key strategic initiatives and in an advisory role to ongoing firm operations.

This transition is evidence of our Studio's plan for growth, of which succession is a key priority. Richard and Anna's management focus will be oversight of the continued growth of the firm through the lenses of practice, business development, talent management and operations.

Since joining Quadrangle in 1996, Anna has developed expertise in managing complex multi-building projects such as the Yonge Sheppard Centre. She also served as Project Architect for a wide range of commercial broadcast, residential, seniors’ residential, adaptive reuse and retail projects. As part of the executive team, she has already transformed the process of talent management and will additionally now be overseeing finance and operations.

In his role as Principal, Richard has been responsible for many of Quadrangle’s innovative urban-focused projects including 100 Broadview, 619 Queen Street West and Toronto’s first engineered wood office building, 80 Atlantic. He has overseen the business development and design pillars of Quadrangle’s strategic plan, strengthening the company’s expansion initiatives.

Susan has been with Quadrangle for 29 years, with 16 years as a Principal and most recently Managing Principal. Her steady hand at the helm of the firm’s operations has been a key factor in our continuing success and development of Quadrangle’s unique blend of design and business acumen so valued by clients and partners. She has helped the firm grow to 160+ people; overseen the development of a valued culture; and has championed integrity and excellence in all her endeavours. Additionally, Susan has built an international reputation as an expert and advocate for universal design, and co-founded AccessAbility Advantage, the Quadrangle/March of Dimes Canada consultancy that provides expertise to corporations, institutions and government on the implementation of the AODA and best practices. 

We wish Susan all the best in her upcoming retirement and look forward to taking advantage of her sage advice and guidance in the months and years to come.
